Our vision and plans include you. Contact us to learn how you can help.
In May of 2023 we began mapping 5 target reefs. The purpose is to locate existing artificial reef consisting of reef ball clusters, ship wrecks and other man made structures.
Each of the five reef locations and structures will be surveyed by scuba teams to locate live coral with a focus on finding available donor coral that has been broken off and would die if not transplanted. Over time these surveys will include recording the health and growth of the transplanted coral. Our first survey dive was conducted on July 3, 2023
North Carolina is the northern most state with hard coral. We have identified a number of corals from previous dive photos that are present at the targeted reef sites. They include Oculina (Hard Coral), Titanideum frauenfeldii, Thesea nivea, Telesto nelleae and Telesto Fruitculosa We will also be attempting to locate Blue Ivy Hedera caerulescens at any of these sites.
Once we have completed the preparation efforts we will start on-going effort.
If any target reef are in need of clean up, we will conduct clean up dive to prepare the location for transplanting efforts. We will also plan clean up dives and needed on an ongoing basis.
Once we have located donor coral locations we will conduct dives during which we will collect and transplant coral to pre identified locations need the collection sites.
So many people that have heard our vision have expressed a long held desire to part of an effort to protect our marine life treasures. We will work hard to create opportunities for people to give back through life-changing experiences with the skill and resources they have been blessed with to fulfill their dreams.
