Patriot’s Reef is dedicated to honoring the bravery, selflessness, and sacrifice of everyday Americans—past, present, and future—by creating a living underwater memorial that restores and protects our ocean.
In alignment with the spirit of the Patriot’s Day community, this effort pays tribute to the citizens, first responders, service members, and maritime crews who answered the call in times of national need, including the heroic actions surrounding September 11th.
Through coral rescue, reef restoration, and long-term stewardship, Patriot’s Reef transforms remembrance into renewal—building a legacy that lives, grows, and gives back for generations. It stands as a symbol of unity, resilience, and service, while supporting marine life, education, and community engagement along our coasts.
The reef is designed with diver safety as a priority, utilizing a navigable trail system that begins and ends at the Twin Towers, with spacing optimized for low-visibility conditions.
The reef layout will provide a guided diving experience with a 30-minute duration and safe navigation paths. Reef balls will be placed large to small followed by a cross, leading away from the twin towers and crosses to small reef ball to large leading back to the twin towers from both sides. This provides safety navigational guidance.
This initiative represents a collaborative effort between Carolina Reef Foundation, Coastal Scuba, Hurricane Fleet, Space Air Land Sea HQ Veterans Post 1 and the Little River Chamber of Commerce. We will also engage with local schools, businesses, government agencies, and veteran organizations to create a lasting community and environmental legacy.
The Little River Patriots Day Festival is a proud community tradition that brings residents and visitors together for a spirited celebration of patriotism, history, and hometown pride. Set in the heart of Little River, the festival offers a full day of family friendly activities including live entertainment, food vendors, local artisans, and special programming that honors our nation’s heritage and those who serve it.
